Is WHR an alternative to Knowland?

An event is a signal that is time-bound and short-lived; the graph is what turns it into intelligence. Mostly not — WHR and Knowland answer different questions for a hotel. Knowland answers “which groups meet in hotels like mine, and how do I win them?” from a historical record of events held in hotel function space. WHR answers “what is coming to my city, who is in it, and which days will it fill?” from a graph of events and their participants. A hotel could use both without overlap.

What is “actualized event data”, and does WHR have it?

It is Knowland’s term for group and meeting activity that actually took place in hotel function space, collected through field reporting, hotel self-reporting and electronic feeds from hospitality systems. WHR does not collect in-hotel function-space bookings, and is not a replacement for them. It records participation in events — trade shows, conferences, concerts, festivals, sports — from organizer listings, agendas, directories and public announcements, and connects those events to the companies and people taking part.

How do WHR and Knowland approach hotel demand differently?

Both support proactive commercial decisions, from different datasets. WHR starts from the external event graph: the Demand Score reads event pressure on a city or zip as far ahead as the data allows — dated events and forecasted editions — and the Demand Impact shows each event’s pull — estimated, and labelled as estimates. Knowland starts from actualized group and meeting activity, account booking history and market intelligence, which its own pages describe as the basis for prospecting, benchmarking and competitive calendars. They answer different parts of the hotel demand and sales problem.

Do I have to share my hotel’s data to use WHR?

No. WHR is built from public and partner sources around events, and using it does not depend on contributing your property’s bookings. Knowland incorporates hotel and hospitality-system data into its own database — its published General Terms, last updated February 2022, describe subscribers as “industry partners in the data collection process” and say access is conditioned on sharing reader-board data. Check the current terms before relying on that.

How does pricing compare?

Knowland is sold by subscription through a service order, with no published prices and a 14-day free trial for qualifying properties. WHR publishes its pricing, and demand feeds are also available by API.
